Move Aside Jamba, The Açai Berry is Here to Stay

I know you’re all just as obsessed with smoothies as I am. I mean, who doesn’t love a good Jamba?

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but those Jamba smoothies that we’ve all been consuming as if they’re going out of style are, well, going out of style.

The new “it” of fruity goodness is none other than the Açai bowl. Though you might be reading this thinking “Great job catching up two years late, Samah,” I just have one thing to tell you. Don’t hate. These unreasonably delicious concoctions get far less than the recognition they really deserve. And I am here to rectify that.

Often the jamba smoothies that we think are “healthy” are packed with added sugar and concentrated sugary fruit juices. This just seals the deal on the fate of your health, added to the already naturally sweet sugar in fruits. Açai bowls omit this, leaving you with an all natural, healthy, and filling snack or meal.


So what is an Açai bowl? In simpler terms, it’s a smoothie in a bowl topped with fresh fruit, granola and honey, that you eat with a spoon (imagine that!) The Açai berry has numerous “superfruit” health benefits. Native to the Amazon rainforest region, the Açai berry boasts vitamins, minerals, and antioxidant powers not otherwise found in many fruits. Combined with this and the ample Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids found in that tiny little berry, I see no reason why you shouldn’t be making this at home….Which leads me to my next point.


After eating an embarassing amount of these bowls in my hometown of Newport Beach courtesy of the fantastic banzai bowl, I’ve kinda deduced how to make these at home for yourself. So give it a try and change your life.

1 Sambazon Frozen Açai Berry Smoothie packet (can be found at Whole Foods)
1 frozen ripe banana
15 frozen strawberries
1/4 cup fresh pressed apple juice or soy/almond

1/4 cup Nature’s Path Hemp Plus Granola


(You don’t need ice!)

Blend and serve in bowl and top with Nature’s Path Hemp Plus Granola and a drizzle of honey. Voila! Enjoy.
